Lung Rehabilitation

Lung transplantation in India

People who have persistent coughing, cold, and difficulty breathing due to lung infections would be suggested for lung rehabilitation. These people might find it hard to carry on the daily activities due to these problems. Lung rehabilitation betters the quality of life of these patients through self-management.

Lung rehabilitation involves several steps. The first step is checking whether the diagnosis of the disease which causes these symptoms is correct. The medications prescribed for the patient and whether they are correctly taking them are also checked.

The second step suggests extra or alternative medications and therapies available for the condition. If the problem persists, then lung rehabilitation is suggested for the patient. This rehabilitation program is typically designed for 12 weeks. The patient need not be admitted but have to visit the hospital regularly once or twice a week during this period.

The patient is then assessed using muscle and strength training. Patients suffering from lung disease tend to lose muscles because of less movement and protein loss. For the proper functioning of the lungs, the muscles need to be strong. During muscle training, each muscle group is focused individually and strengthened using exercises.

According to their condition, proper diet and nutritional advice are also given to the patients. Diet for muscle loss, muscle gain, and the foods to be avoided by the patient is tailored by the dietetics department.
