Parkinson’s disease is a clinical diagnosis and it should be done by neurology doctors. Diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease involves blood tests and scans to determine whether some other diseases mimic the symptoms.
However, once Parkinson’s disease is confirmed, the treatment method starts with medications. Reduced dopamine levels cause Parkinson’s and the medications are given to increase the dopamine levels. This will help the patient get a better quality of life.
Parkinson’s disease is not curable and it will progress with time. However depending on the stages, various treatments can be administered that can control the symptoms.

Physiotherapy is very important for these patients. Also, they tend to freeze mid-movement and for that apomorphine injections are recommended.
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an advanced treatment for Parkinson’s patients. Younger patients with Parkinson’s disease, patients who don’t respond to medications and patients in whom the disease has progressed too much can try DBS treatment.
Deep brain stimulation involves passing an electrode in the brain area through surgery. A generator is fixed in the chest and the electrode is connected to the generator. The generator will send electrical impulses to the lead which will stimulate the brain areas. This will provide relief from symptoms for Parkinson’s patients.
